Saturday Dec 25 @ 04:29am‘Harry Potter’ actress in hiding from violent extremists
Afshan Azad, 22, who plays Padma Patil in the “Harry Potter” film series remains in hiding. She refused to appear in a London court and press charges, no doubt because she knows there’s no way the British police can protect her. It is open Islamic season on Ms. Azad.
What has she done to bring down the wrath of Allah? Ms. Azad’s boyfriend is Hindi, a non-Muslim.
And according to the racist, misogynist doctrine of the Islamists, she is a traitor to the umma, the transnational Muslim community, hence deserving a death sentence.
Ms. Azad’s father, Abul Azad, 53, and her brother Ashraf, 28, labeled her a “prostitute” when they discovered her secret boyfriend. Her brother beat her and her father threatened to kill her after she refused an arranged marriage with a Muslim man. Ms. Azad escaped her family home by climbing through a bedroom window. She has been in hiding ever since. And I’m afraid that like the Seattle cartoonist Molly Norris and so many others, she will remain in hiding for the rest of her life.
You would think that Ms. Azad’s case would sweep through Hollywood like a prairie fire, with celebrities stepping forward to condemn Islam’s war against women and offer support to this unfortunate young actress and the millions of Muslim women who live in perpetual fear of their lives. And hey, Hollywood is stuffed with card carrying feminists. So doesn’t it make sense that western women—specifically liberals who are always lecturing cave dwelling conservatives about social justice and human rights—would surge forward like an angry wave in support of their sister?
But gee willikers, listen to the silence.
This made my heart ache.
Sunday Dec 19 @ 05:48pmA college professor takes away 10 points from my oral presentation because I am not “professionally dressed”. I am here with limited possessions from a state that is 3,000 miles away. I am on scholarship due to economic hardship and wore the only skirt I owned. There was no mention about “professional appearance” or dress on the rubric.
Stuff like this infuriates me.

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY BREAK GLASS.
You are mistaken. Abortions do not involve chained mallets and stomachs/wombs/ribs that glow. And most women have nipples on their breasts.
I think this is a great image to describe how anti-choicer’s view women. Women are not people. They do not have organs. They do have skin. They do not have lungs, nipples, stomachs. They do not have flesh. They are dark, cold metal or stone and glass. Their only inner “light” comes from their ability to incubate a fetus.
The contrast between the image of the fetus and the incubator is startling. Her stony body to its warm, red, soft flesh. It radiates light out to her, giving her a reason to be, because she isn’t allowed to have one without the fetus.
This isn’t a depiction of a woman. Its a depiction of an incubator. She’s a machine here. She’s growing the fetus until its large enough and strong enough to live on its own. But what happens to her then? Will her distended glass stomach return to a normal shape? Will the inner light go out? Will she finally have some organs again? Or will she just wait for the next pregnancy to fufill her again. Will her stomach stay distended to wait for the next fetus to fill it and give her a reason to exist again.
The image of the hammer breaking her glass figure is important too. If she terminates the pregnancy, she will destroy herself. Its suicide. That is how anti choicer’s view abortion-suicide. They swarm with rhetoric that claims that you’ll have made-up disorders, be sterile, be scarred for life if you terminate this pregnancy. They tell you that you can never be whole if you have an abortion, just like this woman will never be whole if she shatters her stomach to terminate the pregnancy.
This is the most honest image I’ve ever seen used in anti choice rhetoric. It doesn’t try to lie and pretend its “pro-life” it is upfront and honest in saying that it doesn’t care about you, only your womb. It doesn’t see you as a whole person. It sees you as a machine to grow other people. I wish all anti-choice rhetoric was this honest about its end-game.
Dat commentary.
emphasis mine.
